last blog!!

This is my last blog post on my topic, Illegal Immigration to The United States. From my topic I learned a lot. I will reflect on how I feel about my topic, and on how this research project has help me. This first semester I don’t think I have changed much. I did what I had to do but other then learning about my topic I don’t I learned anything else.
This semester I have been an outstanding student. I have turned in all my assignments on time and if I have any doubts, I come in and ask for help and clarification. When I need help with something, I go to my friends first, and then my teacher. Sometimes I won’t get a chance to get my paper revised and ill just do what I can on it. I’m pretty responsible, so when it came down to doing my blogs I used my time wisely. When finished with my assignment, I had some one edit it and see if I wasn’t missing anything that I needed.
I noticed that researching is really hard when you do it right. You have to write citations have your sources in order and add quotations to back up what you write. Different types of writing weren’t hard for me, once I had them explained. The hardest thing for me was writing in third person. It was hard for me because I’m used to writhing in first person. My non fiction book was boring but it had a lot of information that I didn’t know. I didn’t use the information on my book because it was an old book that isn’t reliable today. I think that by doing these blogs I made my self a stronger researcher. I think this because we wrote blogs every week, and most of the time we had to research our topic. The problem I have and have always had is putting my information together so it flows. Also that my blogs aren’t always edited and even if they you could still find mistakes in them.
All the information that I learned I will keep, especially current issues today. My topic will always stay with me because I come from an immigrant family. Because of that I will continue to get more information on the topic. When I started this topic I didn’t any much, but now I have more knowledge on it. I like the topic I chose but it got boring writing about it every week. This topic will stick with me forever, and I’m glad that I got the chance to get more information then I new about it.

Book Review

This week’s blog was about a book that I read. The book is called They All Chose America by Albert Q. Maisel. The book told me something’s that I already new, like that different immigrant groups circumnavigate the world to get to the United States. It also gave a lot of information that I didn’t know anything about, and I found very interesting. They All Chose America is a book about different immigrants in the United States. And this is the book review.
Albert Q. Maisel, wrote this book because he wants people to know that immigrants played a big part in characterizing the United States. “Through all our history, the influx of immigration has exerted in tremendous effect upon both the direction and the rate of our material and culture development.” Many people today are ignorant, they are bias against immigrants and they don’t know that the United States customs and culture come from immigrants, and there homeland. “Immigration has continued to operate as a major force-and often a decisive one-in the shaping of our national destiny.” The author will make you reflect on immigrants because he made his purpose meet in this book.
They All Chose America is an easy book read. It talks about the different immigrant groups that came to the United States. The different immigrants groups are alphabetically organized incase you want to read a certain group, and the sections are easy to find. In each section, it talks about how each immigrant group contributed to the United States. The book names immigrant and immigrant descendents that today very famous. The structure of the book made it easy to read and find information. The book is very informative and it got to the point. The book to me though seemed jejune.
The book They all Chose America is a very old book published in New York 1955, by company Thomas Nelson & Son. Back then the book was reliable, but since it is old, many things have changed today, and it wouldn’t be reliable to use now in day. The book can be used to do research on immigration back in the day. It has reliable sources and it gave a lot of information. The author is not bias because he is just trying to informe people how immigrants shape up the United States. And he has sources to back up his information.
By reading this book you will find out how each immigrant group helped shape up the United States. Some immigrants groups brought their culture, words, inventions, food and people that are famous now in the U.S. history. For example, The Dutch brought Santa Claus. “He was of course their Sint Nicolaas, and he was adopted by us all.” The English learned to grow tobacco and it became very popular here. Our famous Paul Revere was the son of a French immigrant, and Hamburgers is German food. Capone and the Lucianos were involved in the Italian mafia and they became very well know. From Mexicans the United States got many words, like bronco, rodeo, canyon, plaza and many more. The book gives more information about different immigrant groups and what the United States adopted from them, all you have to do is read the book.
Albert Q. Maisel uses narrative in the book. Hd uses expository text that goes into detail. He gives facts in his book, and he also tells short stories. Most words are common but others I have never seen before. Most sentences are medium length, not to short or long. He uses some big words to describe things, and to make some sentences short. Sense it’s an old book some words I have never seen so I don’t know what they mean.
They All Chose America gave me a lot of information about illegal immigration to the United States. It didn’t really help me because the book is old and therefore it isn’t recent. It did help me thought when I had to write background information on my topic, or when focusing in a specific immigrant group. I learned a lot of stuff that I had no idea about, like Greek dominate the sponge fishing industry, and they were, “the highest ethnic group to serve in our armed forces in World War I.” What I liked was that the book made immigrants look good. The book showed how immigrants made this place, bringing there culture, words, and inventions here. I would recommend this book when researching different immigration groups in the United States. Also when wondering were and from were we got certain customs and things .The book They all Chose America by Albert Q. Maisel was good, and I feel smarter after reading it.
